Distance Learning

The Inter-American Defense College is proud to offer the following introductory courses via the internet, in a self-paced, distance learning format. These courses are offered in English, Spanish and Portuguese, and represent an exciting enhancement to our goal of providing quality education to senior leaders throughout the Americas.

The courses provide an excellent, concise overview of each subject. They can be understood by someone without any background, yet provide a framework of improved understanding for those that do. The format is simple: 8-10 sub-lessons of text with review questions and a 20 question multiple choice exam at the end, which is auto-graded. The time commitment averages 15-20 hours for each course, so you should be able to get through each in a couple of weekends more or less. The courses are geared toward the busy senior official who has limited time but wants to learn a little more about each subject.

All courses are open to the public. No special permission is required to register or take them. You can start at any time by following the registration links below and creating your own account. Once you have an account, you may use the same account to log in and register for any of the others, by following the links for "Repository" and the "Inter-American Defense College." Those that successfully complete the course, pass the final exam and complete the course registration may request a certificate from the IADC by contacting Distance Learning. At this time, all courses are offered free of charge.
